E-Purse Certification Award Ceremony
The electronic purse (e-purse) is one of the most successful smart
card applications world-wide and was the driver behind the introduction
of smart cards in many countries. Proton World being one of the
prime movers for multi-application smart card has designed a successful
and functional e-purse application which was lauched in Belgium
in 1995. Malaysia has adopted Proton’s specification and chosen
its platform as the common payment mechanism for the two MCS flagship
smart card systems – GMPC and PMPC. Proton’s e-purse specification
provides the most secure solution in terms of the card security
as well as the overall system security. Furthermore, the Proton
system, a spearhead implementation of the Open Platform 2.1 standard,
has the best technological and commercial roadmap to adopt global
open standards.
This non-government e-purse application on the GMPC is branded
locally as "MEPS Cash”. MEPS Cash within the GMPC is now
certified to be compliant with Common Electronic Purse Specification
(CEPS). CEPS is supported by the issuers of over 99% of the world's
e-purses, thus making CEPS a de facto global international standard.
The awarding of Proton E-purse Certification was held in a ceremony
at the IRIS Smart Technology Complex, located in Technology Park
Malaysia, with the honorable presence of YAB Dato Seri Dr Mahathir
bin Mohamed, the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Read
