MyKad, Malaysia’s National Identity Card
In 1999, IRIS was granted a contract by the Malaysian Government to supply the national identity cards with multi applications functionality. This multi purpose card (formerly known as Government Multi Purpose Card or GMPC) is now commonly known as MyKAD.
MyKAD card contains a microprocessor and 64K bytes of EEPROM memory, which enables information to be stored, updated and protected with a secure chip platform. The card can store a colour photograph of the bearer, text details pertaining to the bearer’s identification details and other data pertinent to the application. All these in just ONE card.
Today, there are seven applications comprises of the national identification, national driving license, medical record, passport information, national electronic-purse, ATM, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and contactless electronic purse (transport payment).
