IRIS AT FULL THROTTLE IN SEPANG 1000KM ENDURANCE RACE
KUALA LUMPUR, 6 December 2012: This week, renowned innovator of smart technology solutions IRIS Corporation Berhad is racing in the Sepang 1000KM Endurance Race as Formula IRIS Racing team.
IRIS, the inventor of the world’s first ePassport and world’s first multi-application smart card, has been in the forefront of IT innovations for 18 years. Motorsports such as F1 showcases many innovations and Sepang 1000KM is IRIS's first entry into the world of motorsports. IRIS will be working on introducing new and innovative solutions via the electronic and computer aspects of the sport to benefit and support the car manufacturing industry. One of IRIS’ subsidiaries’ Epoch Energy Technology Sdn Bhd, a newly set up joint venture company with Epoch Energy Ltd, Taiwan, in the business of oxy-hydrogen technology, offers carbon cleaning services for automotive engines.
Motorsports aligns with IRIS’ corporate purpose and brand attributes of “bringing solutions to life”. The sport also provides fun and excitement in a shared experience particularly for IRIS’ employees who, in future races, will man the pit and also drive for Formula IRIS Racing.
“We have chosen to align ourselves with motorsports for several reasons. First, we look forward to working with car companies through our carbon cleaning business in terms of maximising fuel efficiency, increasing engine horse power and torque, and reducing harmful emissions. Also, racing has grown into a truly national (and international) sport igniting passion and excitement with its fans. We are excited to get behind our home grown racers and support the promotion of motorsports in Malaysia. There is possibility that growing interest in motorsport can lead to the formation of local leagues amongst corporations. Possibly, also, more corporations will dedicate efforts towards developing bright, talented young drivers and setting them on the right course with their career,” said Managing Director of IRIS Corporation Berhad Dato’ Tan Say Jim.
The lineup for Formula IRIS Racing Team includes Dato’ Vincent Leong (Director of Corporate Affairs, IRIS), Dato’ Lee Kok Kwan (Deputy CEO, CIMB) and Peter W. England (Head of Retail Financial Services, CIMB)
All the drivers are no strangers to the sport. Dato Lee Kok Kwan and Dato Vincent Leong has participated numerous times in the Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race and Sepang 1000KM while Peter England is an active racer in the Asian Classic Car races in Sepang.
All three of the drivers were in the Renault Megane RS Challenge last year. The team will be driving Formula IRIS Racing’s 2004 Toyota Celica with a 1.8l in-line front engine with 180hp, with a top speed of 200km/h.
