DHAKA, 8 January 2013: The Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and IRIS Corporation have strengthen their relationship by signing a two-year contract extension for the Machine Readable Passport (MRP) and Machine Readable Visa (MRV) project. The commemorative signing of the contract agreement took place respectively at the Agargaon passport office in Dhaka.

In attendance were Director General of the Department of Immigration and Passport (DIP), Abdul Mabud, Director of IRIS Corporation Dato’ Tony Lee, with the presence of Brigadier General of Bangladesh, Masud Rezwan, Director of Data Edge limited, Noor A Alam Chowdhury and Malaysian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Her Excellency Madam Norlin Othman.

Since winning the tender 2010, IRIS Corporation has been efficient in supplying all essential hardware and software to the Bangladesh DIP for their implementation of MRP and MRV to replace the previously hand-written conventional document.

The initial agreement was established in order for IRIS to strengthen its brand, expand IRIS’ business opportunities in Bangladesh, and respond swiftly to market demands. Furthermore, the renewal of the two-year contract extension of BDT1.3 billion (RM52 million) was due to the increased requirements of MRP volume, additional equipment and related services for the total population of 150 million citizens in Bangladesh.

Currently, the MRP is being produced from seven different division headquarters, 34 regional offices and 30 foreign missions across the globe. Moreover, the company produced and distributed 4.2 million MRPs, averaging 8,000 passports every day.
IRIS’ collaboration with the Government of Bangladesh is a positive step towards supplying innovative ePassport solutions to the Bangladesh Immigration Department as the nation works towards Digital Bangladesh.
