Solomon Islands Implements IRIS ePassport Solution

16 December 2016

Solomon Islands is the first country in the Pacific region to operate an ePassport system, thanks to the Public, Private, Partnership (PPP) Model between the DCC Government and IRIS Corporation Bhd.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare officially launched the ePassport system on 15th December 2016, at the Honiara International Terminal.

The successful launch of the system came about after the DCC Government signed an agreement with IRIS Corporation Bhd for 20 years with a contract value of USD 22,000,000 in November 2015. This is to help establish the information and management system of ePassport and border control in Solomon Islands.

“From the government’s perspective, having the ePassport and Border Control Management System in place will have enormous benefits for Solomon Islands citizens and country,” the Prime Minister said.

Mr. Sogavare further highlighted that IRIS Corporation Bhd was an easy choice to engage for the ePassport and border control project as it is recognized for inventing the world’s first ePassport in 1998.
